How to start a blog for profit in 2022

If you are like most people who would have heard about blogging or a little about it and have wondered if there is any money to be made.

Well I used to be in the same spot a few years ago before I became a full time blogger who earns a full time income online. So these days I spend time helping me understand how to do this. So in this post I will be showing you how to start a blog for profit.

Hi, my name is Thabo and I quit my high paying job as a civil engineer in 2019 to work full time as a blogger within few months of starting my blog.

I am also a Forex Trader and dance coach at the same time which is quit a dream for me because I am doing what I love and have time freedom.

Anyways today I am here to talk about blogging and everything blogging related and show you how you can also do the same. I am sure you would like to have time freedom right?

I mean, who doesn’t really?

My Story from beginner to achieving full time income online

I would like to first tell you a bit of my story and how I became a full time income earning blogger so you have an idea about all of this and also you story may be similar to where I was before I became a blogger.

It was in 2016 where I was looking for ways to make money online that I stumbled upon blogging and it was when I attended a personal development event.

At the event I stumbled upon Blogging and ways to make money and it was through a young lad called Peng Joon who was supposedly making millions online with his blogs.

Needless to say I ended up signing up for his course and joining. The course that he offered at the to time was called Internet Income Intensive.

It was only after a few years that I realized that it was all a big scam because there was no support system at all even though I kept sending emails for help.

The main premises for hos the program was is that it acts as a sales funnel to make you keep buying one program after another. I am sure you have come across such programs.

Well as I was still just starting out as an engineer it was hard to keep paying for all these upsells so I decided to just do it on my own.

The reason I did not give up with blogging was because I knew that there is ton of money to be made and I had seen people living the laptop lifestyle I wanted.

Now at the time I had what  many call a good life where you have a high paying job and have just gotten a degree and you are driving a luxury car.

But to be honest, it was not as precise because I still had quite a few debts that were weighing me down and so I could not stop until I got a way to take my income to the next level.

Now your story may be like mine back in 2016 :

• Having loads of debt
• Hard to make ends meet
• Not having enough time for my hobbies
• Feel stressed and stuck at work

So you understand why I could not stop until I got a person to show me how to make money with blogging or a legit program because I was tired of investing in scam programs with no results.

This is when things changed

One day at work I was searching on google how to make money through my blog and checked for mentors or someone to help me and I bumped into a program that changed everything.

The course was literally free to sign up and needed no credit card to start. The training in there was of course limited for a free membership.

But I liked the fact that I could start making a blog and also get training on things I was not aware of. I mean I did not learn advanced stuff but it was enough to make me decided that I wanted to go for the premium membership because I had gotten so much value already.

However I discovered that I needed to make more of this income and the same program showed me ways to scale my business and income.

As you can see below this is what happened and is happening.

And for showing my income it is not to brag or anything but it is to show you that if you apply the right knowledge from the right program the sky is basically the limit.

I also wish the same for you. If a young person with no skill like me was able to reach financial freedom with a blog you can do the same or even more. I had no special skills only hunger to succeed.

I am now happy that I am making thousands monthly online and the good thing I keep scaling more each time which leads to more passive income.

Again you do not need any skills when it comes to blogging at all. I know because I am technically illiterate ha-ha.

let us get into how you can start your own blog today and get ready to start making money.

1. Choosing a niche

Just like with any business you will need to look around and so some research on what you are willing to focus on so you can start that business (In this case blog) and make money.

Without doing this it is not easy to make money and you may as well quit because you will not make a dime unless you happen to be lucky.

With blogging you will need to choose a niche that is not only your hobby but also has a lot of demand and this is the most important thing that most people do not talk about and it is the same thing that made me not see any income when I started.

Here are some niches that you could go into which have a good amount if proven demand:

• Health and Fitness
• Gardening
• Relationship and advice
• Personal development

You could also go a bit deeper into these niches so that you are not competing with a lot of people. For example if you go for a health or weight loss blog these will be broad so there will be loads of competition for you.

The best thing to do is to go a step down and break these niches into smaller ones and one such example would be to go for a blog like weight loss for busy women instead of just weight loss or health.

This is more important than ever in 2022 as there are so many people who have started blogs and so you will need to stand out.

For example one of my other website is veganweight which is because a narrow down from weight loss to diet and further into a specific diet.

So you can see my main audience are people who are looking to lose weight on a vegan diet or lifestyle.

How do I choose a niche or website?

As I mentioned above that you will need to get a blog that is specific however more than that you need to like the topic or at least have huge interest with it as I mentioned.

The reason for this is that you will need to write content for your audience consistently so how can you write about something that you do not like or are not interested in.

This will not work in the long term especially if you are the one who will be blogging (it is a different case if you will be hiring writers for your blog).

So in summary you need something with demand and that you know about or are willing to know about so you can do research and write content to generate traffic ( an audience for your blog).

How do I choose a name for my blog?

This topic can be very controversial for many because some people refer to have their names as their blog names while other prefer to have their niche names on this.

It really does depend on you to be honest.

However, what I found great about having your niche as your blog name is that it will be able to help you rank better especially if you are trying to rank for specific keyword for your chosen niche on Google.

In essence, it will show authority for that subject or keyword.

You will than have to check if the domain name (blog name) that you choose is available or not and this you can check using different tools but my favorite is domainwheel.

You do not need to really do this because when you get your domain it will tell you if the one you want exists or not.

2. Get a domain

The next step after you have chosen your preferred domain name is to buy your domain so you can start your blog.

” A webhosting is like your land on the internet and the domain (e.g theworkathomegraduate.com) is your house and the domain name is the address”

So when getting a domain it is vital to get something that is good and will work well and super safe and that is why I recommend Bluehost which I have used for many years for most of my blogs.

The good thing is that Bluehost is well-known and very beginner-friendly with super low costs yet high value for your website.

So I will be showing you step by step how to do this as I promised so first go bluehost.com and make sure that you have the page pulled up on a separate tab before starting with this tutorial since you will be following this tutorial and executing step by step.

After you have opened up the tap you should now see bluehost home page as shown on the image below.

Next step

Head over to the top-left corner and find the menu tab and there you will be able to see wordpress, select not and than select “WordPress Hosting“.

You should now be able to see the page that shows you different plans.

Now you will select “Choose Plan” button which will take you to the different paid plans. As a beginner you will need to select basic as this will be enough for you to get started and have your own blog.

Then select ” Basic” and you should be directed to a page that should give your domain name option.

Now under “Create new domain” you need to put in the domain name that you have come up with or have chosen.

 

The last step is than to complete the details and than choose your term for the basic plan that was chosen.

You can either choose 1 year or 3 years it us up to you but keep in mind that the longer term you choose (in this case 3 years) the less you will pay per month which is what I always recommend to people as it will save you quit a lot.

Ofcourse you can always get the paid options but as a beginner you do not need these.

4. Start generating content

You now have a fully fledged website for yourself well done.

Now it is time to generate content about anything you like in your chosen niche and do this consistently and you can start making money.

There are different ways that you can make money with blogging and I will talk about these so that you can choose one that you feel suited to you.

5.How to generate income with your blog

Most people are super excited about this part after having their blog running and they want to know how to make money with their blog.

Well there are many methods really but I will touch on the ones I have used personally that I know will give you good amount of income.

1. Display ads
2. Affiliate marketing
3. Sponsored posts

• Display ads

This is, by far, the most used methods which people have been making money with blogging over the years and all you have to do is to apply with an advertising company like Googleadsense and you can put up their ads.

Whenever people click on those ads you will get paid and this can add up over time.

However this method is better if you already have a huge amount of traffic so that your income can be big and also other networks do require you to have loads amounts of traffic before applying to them.

• Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is another way you can make passive income with your blog and this is when you promote people’s products to get commissions.

This is one of my favorite methods which I also use a lot and which helped me quit my job.

The good thing with this method is that you do not own any products all you do is to get products infront of the correct people.

However, most people do not make money because they can not do it right so getting the right skill to do this is key.

You can either do this by joining a program that can help you step by step like the one that helped me (see below) or you can basically just follow YouTube tutorials or try it figure it out yourself or another program.

Having a program is usually great because it helps you get rid of all the trial and errors of the business model.

• Sponsored ads

Once your blog has become big many companies can start approaching you where they ask you to write for them or to have your work featured on the websites.

This can make you grow and have exposure.

Final thoughts

Being a blogger can be a life changing decision and for many people this can even mean having the ability to travel the world like I am.

This is because you will have the ability to earn money by simply talking about anything that interest you and in return you will be paid many times over.

Blogging for me was not easy when I started because I had no one to show me the way so figuring out things on my own was super hard which delayed me a lot.

This is why now I always recommend to people to have good mentors or a program that will show them like me so they can start making money online.

Blogging is now popular and will continue to be popular as more people go an order things online.

This means that for people who have blogs they will have more and more opportunities to make money over the coming years.
